Sarah Adams’ ‘Rest Area’ landscapes showing at Gallery

By Latrobe Shire Council - 10th September 2004 - Back to News

A stunning series of photographs of local landscapes by Sarah Adams is currently on display in the International Power Hazelwood Community Access Gallery at the Latrobe Regional Gallery. The images in the exhibition ‘Rest Area’ are the result of the artist’s travels to local sites and wilderness areas over the last six months.

Latrobe Regional Gallery Director, Louise Tegart, said that snow-capped trees, brooding stormy skies, wildlife and shadows have been captured on a digital camera and printed on watercolour paper to produce soft, velvety images.

"Sarah Adams grew up in Gippsland and returned in 2003 to complete a degree in Visual Arts at Monash University, Gippsland. She has lived in many different parts of Australia, all of them very beautiful yet the Gippsland region continues to stun her with special spots, some of which she has chosen to share in ‘Rest Area’. The places photographed are all within one hours drive from Morwell," Ms Tegart explained.

"The development of the exhibition has been enlightening for the artist and she has revisited her love of nature and strong beliefs for environmental conservation.

Practicing from an art studio in Moe, with a view of the Baw Baws, Sarah Adams intends to continue her documentation of local wonderlands.

The exhibition will be on show until Saturday 19 September.

The Latrobe Regional Gallery is located at 138 Commercial Road, Morwell, and is open Tuesday to Friday 10am-5pm, and on weekends 11am–4pm. The Gallery is closed Mondays and Public Holidays. For further information about exhibitions at the Gallery, telephone 5128 5700.
