The History Of The Brown Coal Mine Unveiled

New mueseum allows visitors to step back in time

By Emma Kae - 14th May 2002 - Back to News

The grand opening of Yallourn’s Brown Coal Mine Museum marked a time for the community to celebrate, remember and revisit days gone by.

The museum, a Yallourn North and District Historical Society project, features an array of photos, models and articles tracing the history of the Brown Coal Mine from its opening in 1873 to present.

The opening was attended by over 300 people and officially launched by Labor MLA for Narracan Ian Maxfield and long-time residents Kath Ringing and George Seear. Those who attended stated that the museum is a credit to the Society and all of the volunteers involved in the project.

To take a step back in time, visit the museum and revisit our past. Open every weekend from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm, including public and school holidays. Admission is $2 for adults, $1 for children over 12 and $5 for families.
