The project extends from Matthew Street to Dairy Lane (a total of 190 metres) and from Dickson to Billson Street (totalling 220 metres). This work is part of Bass Coast Shire Council’s annual capital works program for the renewal of existing road and drainage infrastructure. Council’s Infrastructure Director, Felicity Sist, said this is the last and second stage of the project for Hunter Street. We have replaced and extended underground drainage, kerb and channelling and renewed the existing pavement surface. "Most people wouldn’t realise that this type of maintenance also requires an extensive amount of work underground to negotiate around other in-ground services. The works have been going well, they are about 70 per cent complete and are scheduled to finish on 13 July, depending on weather conditions", confirmed Ms Sist. As part of Council’s commitment to sustainability, the old kerb and channel will be excavated, removed from the site and recycled. The pavement will be pulverised and a crush rock overlay will follow after this. "These works are being undertaken by Terrafirma Excavations Pty Ltd, a local family firm from Cowes, Phillip Island. "There will be some disruption during this period, however Council and our contractors always programme works to minimise inconvenience to local residents. In this case the contractors have maintained access for all residents and for users of the Dairy convenience store," said Ms Sist.
