By Department of Sustainability and Environment - 22nd October 2004 - Back to News Since 1975 the Council has advised the Minister for Environment on the administration of the National Parks Act. It consists of ten members, including eight nominated by the Minister on the basis of specific selection criteria.
National Parks are managed on behalf of all Victorians to protect the important parts of our natural environment and other features, as well as providing enjoyment, recreation and education.
The Council includes members from a range of backgrounds, including representatives for metropolitan and rural communities.
Two of the positions now up for renewal are for people who live outside the metropolitan area and have experience in matters affecting the interests of the community. The third position requires someone with skills or experience in the preservation and protection of parks, regardless of where they live.
Expressions of interest for the three positions close on 19 November 2004.
Applicants should have an active interest in how the National Parks Act is implemented and be available for at least six Council meetings per year, plus a couple of field trips.
Council members are entitled to sitting fees.
