Hub’s panels to be replaced

Older and deteriorating solar panels to be replaced to achieve zero net carbon.

By Portal Admin - 1st February 2021 - Back to News

Bass Coast Shire Council will replace 46 of the solar panels on the roof of the Inverloch Community Hub this February, with a new 15kW solar system. The 12kW system that is currently located on the roof of the library needs replacing, due to the deteriorating condition of the panels. These works are fully funded by Council in the order of $22,000 as part of the 2020/21Capital Works Program.

Bass Coast Shire Mayor, Cr Brett Tessari said that these works come as part of Council’s commitment to achieve zero net carbon emissions by 2030

Commitment to achieve zero carbon emissions

Cr Tessari said, "To do this we are investing in renewable energy systems at our sites and investigating the purchase of 100 per cent renewable energy for all our electricity purchases. The Inverloch library has been generating renewable energy through a small solar system for a number of years. To ensure the ongoing solar capacity at the site, the older system will be replaced to improve renewable energy production into the future,"

Expect noise and parking disruptions for three days

The installation of the new panels is expected to take around three days to complete and is likely to generate some noise and vibrations while the contractors carry out the necessary works.

Every effort will be to minimise noise and disruptions while the works are underway and traffic and pedestrian control measures may be implemented. As part of the works, a crane will be onsite to remove the existing panels and to lift new solar panels onto the roof. Some car parking bays beside the library may be closed during this time.
