Warning: There have been a number of burglaries in our area lately where entry has been gained through unlocked doors and open windows. Be sure to lock all doors and windows of your home, garage and garden shed before you leave home, even if it is only for a short time. Home Protection With the Easter holiday season just around the corner, many people will be away from home. Household burglary is a concern during this period. Neighbourhood Watch encourages people to adopt simple safety precautions around their home to considerably lower their risk of burglary. These include: · Install strong locks on doors and windows and lock up when you leave. · When you are not at home, make it look like somebody is present, use timers on the lights. · Never let your home look unoccupied, arrange for a neighbour to collect mail, junk mail and newspapers. · Do not hide spare keys outside your home. · Lock up your tools and your shed, the burglar can use your tools to break into your house. · Mark your property for identification. · Make a list of your property and store it in a safe place; These tips are only some of the many safety precautions you can take to protect your home against burglary. If you would like a pamphlet on home security, featuring more useful safety precautions, please contact your local Neighbourhood Watch Coordinator or visit www.crimeprevention.vic.gov.au Smoke Detectors: When daylight saving ends!
