Latrobe City and South Gippsland Councils endorsed the Renewable Energy Study, focusing on jobs, housing, infrastructure
Latrobe City and South Gippsland Shire Councils, with Regional Development Australia, funded the Renewable Energy Impact and Readiness Study. It identifies over 8,000 potential jobs by 2032, highlighting Latrobe's industrial capacity.
At its most recent council meeting, council noted the Renewable Energy Impact and Readiness Study (the Study) and authorised officers to progress actions detailed in the Study. Latrobe City Council and South Gippsland Shire Council, in conjunction with Regional Development Australia (RDA), funded the study. The Study focuses on four key themes: business supply chain, jobs and skills, housing and accommodation, and infrastructure.

Planning, investment, collaboration
The Study highlights Latrobe City's pivotal role in industrial land supply, manufacturing capability, current workforce and as a centre for future renewable energy training. This document will support future advocacy and project development.
The main driver of the Study is a need to understand and strategically plan for long term renewable energy investment, to optimise economic benefits and mitigate any potential issues that may arise from project facilitation and delivery. The Study identifies opportunities for collaboration between Latrobe City and South Gippsland in areas such as workforce development and infrastructure.
Jobs, growth, opportunities
Mayor of Latrobe City Council, Councillor Darren Howe, said the Study outlines several projects that will bring many benefits to the City, including job creation. "The Study highlights more than 8000 jobs in development and construction phases and 1500 ongoing operational jobs in renewable energy projects may be generated by 2032 in Gippsland."
"Latrobe City has industry specialisations in engineering, manufacturing and civil construction services, all of which are relevant to the renewable energy supply-chain. The Study also identified that there are 717 hectares of land available in Latrobe City, with most of the land in Morwell, providing opportunities for industry attraction to the region," said the Mayor.
Officers will continue to implement actions in the Study and will continue to work with prospective renewable energy developers. View the full Study via the council meeting agenda on Latrobe City website.
