The Gippsland Campus, School of Applied Sciences is running the annual VCE DNA workshops from July 14-18. A total of 14 schools, totalling 260 secondary students, from across the Gippsland region will attend these popular workshops which aim to provide secondary students with practical experience relevant to their VCE Biology studies.

Students who successfully applied for mid year entry to courses at the Gippsland Campus began a week orientation program today. Approximately 60 domestic and international students will start their academic year familiarising themselves with the many networks and services available on and off the campus and meeting administrative and teaching staff who will assist them during their undergraduate studies. The new cohort of students will be undertaking studies in the areas of Business and Economics, Humanities, Communications and Social Sciences, Information Technology and Nursing.

The Maintenance and Reliability Engineering residential school for postgraduates is on at the Gippsland Campus this week. Fifty students from around Australia and nearby countries will be living on campus and undertaking sessions by Gippsland Engineering staff. There will also be a range of guest speakers, student seminars and a site visit to a local plant with interesting maintenance management developments.

• Making the Grade

Approximately 2000 students competed in the Southern University Games in Adelaide last week. The Monash teams competed against students from Victorian, South Australian and Tasmanian Universities. The Monash Squad consisted of 220 students with 14 from the Gippsland Campus who qualified in Basketball, Badminton, Hockey, Netball, Rugby Union, Soccer, Softball, Touch Football and Volleyball which enables them to compete in the Australian University Games from September 28 to October 4.

Second Semester free lunchtime concerts at the Gippsland Campus, will begin on Monday, 21 July. The opening concert ‘Colour and Light – 20th Century Flute and Guitar’, explores music from India, Japan, Argentina and France, including one of Ravi Shankar's few works for western instruments ‘The Enchanted Dawn’. The concert begins at 1.10pm in the Hexagon.
