Cool and slippery performance expected from Banana OilA fairly strange phenomenon will slip into Tyers on Sunday 2 May at the Tyers Hall at 7.30pm for a brief encounter of the musical kind By Latrobe Shire Council - 20th April 2004 - Back to News It features a cool, slippery, four-piece jazz band named ‘Banana Oil’, a kind of New Orleans funky jazz meets the Brady Bunch.
Banana Oil, presented by the Latrobe Performing Arts in conjunction with Gippsland Acoustic Music Club, will bring a flavour of music that’s great listening and dancing music.
"Those of us who are constantly tapping our feet at the other shows can finally leap out of our seats and boogie to our hearts desire," President of Gippsland Acoustic Music Club, Lyndal Chambers said.
"If you read the band’s own explanation of themselves then four interplanetary geeks from a neighbouring asteroid seek love, respect, global harmony and a box of ripe bananas.
"Their music is funky, jazzy, saxy, organic, bent and very, very cool. Regardless of the words used to describe what they do, audiences at all the major festivals around Australia have been loving it," Ms Chambers explained.
"It really is a case of letting the music speak for itself, which is what will happen at Tyers as part of their regional Victorian tour, which has been made possible with funding assistance form Arts Victoria and the Community Support Fund."
Tickets for Banana Oil are on sale now from the Box Office at the Performing Arts Centre, telephone 5176 3559; or from Select Music Systems, telephone 5174 2849.
