Stay safe on water this 2023/24 summer says Melina Bath
Melina Bath urges water safety during Australian summer, emphasising vigilance, awareness of surroundings, and supervision-encouraging sensible enjoyment to ensure a safe and happy season for all.
In the great tradition of a warm summer in Australia, many locals will soon be out enjoying the various beaches, pools, and rivers. The Nationals Member for Eastern Victoria, Melina Bath said with water there are always risks involved so she is providing a timely reminder to locals to stay safe when around water over the coming months. "As temperatures begin to rise, I want to take this opportunity to prompt everyone to be safe and sensible when it comes to enjoying time around the water."
Improve your safety around beaches, rivers, lakes and public or private swimming pools, and check the weather before you head out for water activities
Prioritise water safety
Ms Bath said, "Water safety is far too important to be forgotten. To ensure the safety of yourself, your family, and your friends, I encourage everyone to be vigilant around water and always look out for others. It pays to be aware of your surroundings, swim to the conditions and your abilities."
Ms Bath said water play is great fun on a hot day and splashing around in the pool in the backyard, or diving through waves at the beach is an activity many of us enjoy. "We have all earned a bit of fun at this time of year, but it is always important to participate sensibly."
"Particularly for those with young children, supervision is critical, as are the simple things such as wearing a life jacket when out on a boat or swimming where lifeguards patrol. Summer is a fabulous time of the year to congregate with loved ones and cool off - but please make sure you are doing the little things to ensure everyone remains safe and happy," she said.
