The Internet Archive

The ultimate resource of online information

By Emma Kae - 13th November 2001 - Back to News

Have you ever wanted to turn back time? To un-break your mother’s favourite vase, to un-crash your fathers car or simply to visit that elusive website that disappeared in the midst of an update? Well, the latter, at least, is now possible. The Internet Archive allows you to view archived versions of websites, way back to 1996.

The Wayback Machine makes it possible to visit pages that are stored in the Internet Archive's web archive. The database is vast, with listings of websites in all shapes and forms. You can search specific collections (such as comprehensive material on the September 11 disaster) or enter a specific URL and search for a particular website.

The Internet Archive is a virtual library - a digital collection of Internet resources and ‘other cultural artifacts’ in website format. Like your nearest public library, the provision of access to researchers, historians, scholars, and the general public is free (in accordance with the listed terms and conditions).

A great website, just waiting for your exploration… Click here to visit it for yourself…
