Weekly Bulletin – Monday, November 10, 2003Mark the calendar By Monash University, Gippsland - 7th November 2003 - Back to News Prospective students have chosen Gippsland Campus a record amount of times. Gippsland Campus was selected 5193 times by students looking to study in 2004. Students will have a chance to make their final decision during the Change of Preference period in December after receiving their VCE results.
The 2nd Institute for Regional Studies International Conference will be held at the Gippsland Campus on November 13 and 14 and will explore the effects on regional populations of ICT-assisted forms of governance. Professor Ann Macintosh, Director of the International Teledemocracy Centre and Professor of E-Governance at Napier University, Scotland will be keynote speaker. Community, civil society and technology, participation, e-government, region and a sense of place and evaluation of performance are the six themes to be explored during the two-day conference.
‘Call Centre Outsourcing to India – The Revenge of History?’ is the title of the Institute for Regional Studies seminar to be presented by Dr Phil Taylor, University of Stirling, Scotland on Monday, November 10 at 12.30pm in the Business & Economics Conference Room, Gippsland Campus. At a time when call centres are becoming of vital importance to the local economy, headlines announce the flight of Australian call centres to India. The seminar will tackle issues of crucial importance to the globalisation debate in general and the Latrobe Valley in particular.
‘Management Development: Where to from here?’ is the title of the Faculty of Business & Economics Research Forum to be presented by Professor Serge Mukhi on Tuesday, November 11 at 1pm at the Gippsland Campus. Professor Mukhi is Foundation Professor of Management and Special advisor to the Vice-Chancellor on international relations at the University of Technology, Sydney and has over 25 years experience in managerial skills training in both the private and public sectors.
• Making the Grade
Vaughan Reimers from the Faculty of Business and Economics at the Gippsland Campus has received a Marketing Research Committee grant to compare consumer attitudes in the area of retail shopping centres, store convenience and retail centre attributes in a regional and urban context.
• Open subject
Final Year Bachelor of Arts students will be exhibiting their work at the Switchback Gallery at Monash University’s Gippsland Campus from November 18, 2003 until January 30, 2004. The exhibition includes painting, sculpture and photography. The Gallery is open from 9am-5pm weekdays.
