Large Fines for Dumping of Unwanted Scrap MetalDumping unwanted items, especially unwanted scrap metal is an offence. Read more about this reminder from the Latrobe City Council. By news@gippsland - 22nd June 2016 - Back to News Latrobe City Council is reminding residents that dumping unwanted items is an offence.
The dumping of unwanted material, including scrap metal, old appliances, vehicle parts and machinery, also known as aggravated littering, is an offence under the provisions of the Environment Protection Act 1970 that carries a maximum penalty of $9120.
Following complaints of repeated dumping outside a scrap recycling merchant’s premises in Head Street, Traralgon, Council has increased Local Laws patrols in the Head Street area during the day and night and will take action against any person found dumping material," Latrobe City mayor, Councillor Michael Rossiter, said.
Councillor Rossiter said a range of unwanted items, including scrap metal, white goods and televisions, can be left free of charge at any of Council’s four transfer stations.
