Secrets Of Successful Boards And Committees

Want to know how your board or committee can be more effective?

By Bass Coast Shire Council - 12th August 2005 - Back to News

Bass Coast Shire Council is hosting a free seminar to help local community groups boost the effectiveness and governance skills of their boards and committees.

The Secrets of Successful Boards and Committees seminar will be held on 24 August 2005 at 7pm at the Wonthaggi Union Community Arts Theatre.

Council’s Chief Executive Officer, Allan Bawden, says staff are strongly committed to supporting local boards, school councils and committees of management.

"These types of organisations are the heartbeat of local communities.

"The stronger these groups are and the greater their skills, the greater influence they will have in building a stronger community.

"I encourage people who are currently on, or are considering joining, local boards, councils and committees to attend this informative seminar," he said.

The Secrets of Successful Boards and Committees seminar will cover a range of issues including:

  • Modern governance, financial and legal obligations and risk management;
  • Recruitment and succession, policies and procedures and developing better sub-committees;
  • Assessing Board effectiveness and individual board member effectiveness and managing the process of change;
  • Transforming dysfunctional Boards and handling personality differences; and
  • Using the Boards, Committees & Governance resource centre.

A free resource kit of Help Sheets will also be available to all participants.

Bookings are essential. To register to attend this free seminar please contact Tracie Pert on (03) 5671 2211 or (03) 5952 3311 or via email to t.pert@basscoast.vic.gov.au, or register online at www.ourcommunity.com.au.
