Latest News• Add My News • Search Old News Gippsland › Latest news › Department of Primary IndustriesBushfire Recovery Bounty CollectionsOfficers from the Department of Primary Industries will be collecting fox scalps from 12.00pm to 2.00pm on Wednesday the 23rd of May 2007 at 1 Stratford Road, Maffra, for the Bushfire Recovery Fox and Wild Dog Bounty. The bounty is one part of an integrated approach to effective pest animal control in "Co-ordinated pest control by groups of neighbouring landholders using baiting programs and den fumigation and destruction, combined with shooting, is the best method of achieving a sustained reduction in fox numbers," said DPI Pest Animals Program Manager, Brett Harrison. Fox tails will not be accepted as part of the bounty program and public counters in DPI offices would not act as drop-off points for bounty collection. "Claimants must present only frozen, freshly skinned or air dried material for payment. Putrid or fly blown material will not be accepted," Mr Harrison said. "All claimants will also be required to sign a declaration stating that they ‘shot’ the animals in The depots, indicated on the Collection Schedule, will only accept bounty applications at the designated collection times. The Collection Schedule is available from the Bushfire Recovery Fox and Wild Dog Bounty Program website at www.dpi.vic.gov.au/bounty07. DPI strongly advises hunters to visit the website and read to the detailed description of the Wild Dog Control Areas and other conditions of the bounty or call the Customer Service Centre on 136 186, prior to hunting foxes or wild dogs for bounty payment.
