Firearms Seized In Morwell

By news@gippsland - 19th May 2004 - Back to News

On Monday May 3, Victoria Police and a Wildlife Officer from the Department of Sustainability and Environment (DSE) interviewed a Morwell man about shooting protected wildlife. It was alleged that several weeks prior he illegally shot approximately 20 protected birds near Sale and committed a number of other wildlife related offences.

The man had his Firearms Licence suspended immediately and had five firearms and approximately 4,000 rounds of ammunition seized after the interview. The man will be charged on summons under both the Wildlife Act and Firearms Act for these offences.

DSE Wildlife Officer Anthony Ball said that these types of offences are always taken extremely seriously by DSE and the police, who will continue to be vigilant in dealing with offenders.
