International Education week, an initiative of the Victorian Department of Education and Training will be celebrated at Monash Gippsland. On March 21, the campus will host a Welcome Reception for the region’s international students. Students from secondary and tertiary institutions across Gippsland have been invited and will be welcomed to the region and the state at an informal multicultural event. Host families, council representatives and community members will also attend and have a chance to meet people from across the region.

A research forum will be held on March 22. The forum, titled, ‘Now I didn’t mean to break his teeth’: Applying Linguistic analysis to police interview confessions will discuss the role of linguistic analysis in police interviews. It will examine the way that speakers manage topics during their interaction and highlight a particular strategy employed by interviewing officers when developing a ‘police version’ of events. Audio extracts will be used in the forum, which will be presented by Dr. Georgina Heydon.
