Dargo-White Timber Spur And Waynes Track Fires

Awareness Message – Update

By DSE - 13th February 2009 - Back to News

Date:12 February 2009.

Time: 1100

Review time: 1600

Release no: 14

Incident Information

Dargo received 8 mm of rain over night which suppressed the running edge of these fires. DSE will keep monitoring the fire behaviour but do not anticipate any spread because of the wet conditions.

The Dargo-White Timber Spur fire remains quiet. Low temperatures and low fuel loads has inhibited the spread of this fire. Work on the control lines for this fire is almost complete.

The Waynes Track fire has been declared contained.

The Dargo High Plains road remains closed to traffic.

Parks Victoria and DSE are asking people to refrain from travelling into the Alpine National Park and adjoining State Forest areas north west of Dargo and south of Mount Hotham.

Core Advice

  • There may be increased amounts of smoke in the area from this fire.
  • Road users are advised to take extra care as road travel may be hazardous due to low visibility from smoke.
  • Even though this fire does not currently pose a threat, people in high risk bushfire areas are reminded to have a bushfire survival plan ready to implement during the summer period.
  • Continue to listen to ABC radio (828 am or 105.5 FM or 90.7 FM) Note that ABC 100.7 is out of service until further notice.

Additional Information

  • Road closures currently in place: The Dargo High Plains Road is closed 3 kilometres north of the Dargo township and at the intersection of the Great Alpine Road and the Dargo High Plains Road.
  • Resources committed to these fires: 6 slip-on units: 5 dozers: 1 aircraft: 18 personnel
