Housing Industry MOU Signed by GippsTAFEGippsTAFE and the HIA have agreed to support the growth of one another By Eimear McNelis - 19th August 2002 - Back to News GippsTAFE and the Housing Industry Association (HIA) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to promote co-operation in the provision of training for the Gippsland building industry.
GippsTAFE and the HIA have agreed to support the growth of each other, in a complimentary and co-operative fashion, and establish collaborative relationships between the two organisations to benefit local builders and home builders.
The first project under the agreement is a basic scaffolding course in Warragul.
The theory components of the course were delivered at GippsTAFE’s Warragul Campus and the practical assessment was held at Gippsland Group Training in Warragul.
Students for the first course travelled from as far as Foster, Pakenham, Phillip Island and Maffra.
The course enabled students to erect scaffolding in new and existing dwellings and meet the requirements of Worksafe Victoria Guidelines in the prevention of falls on construction sites.
GippsTAFE and the HIA are now planning to host the Gippsland Housing Industry Awards to showcase the very best design and building techniques in the region.
GippsTAFE offers a range of training programs for the building industry including certificate and pre-apprenticeship programs in General Construction, Carpentry, Architectural Drafting, Off Site Construction (Joinery Timber/ Aluminium/ Glass), Furnishing and Cabinet Making, Visual Stress Grading (Softwood and Hardwood), Dogging, Basic, Intermediate and Advanced Rigging and Scaffolding, Forklift Operation, Mobile Plant Operation (Front End Loader, Back Hoe Excavator) and Vehicle Mounted Self Loading Crane.
