Van Driel ResignationChief Executive Officer of Latrobe City Council resigns. By Portal Admin - 22nd October 2018 - Back to News Today, Chief Executive Officer of Latrobe City Council tendered his resignation and signalled his intention to not participate in the upcoming recruitment process being conducted by Council.
Mr Van Driel leaves, four years after securing the role, with the Latrobe City community’s satisfaction with Council’s customer service performance at an all-time high; having led a fiercely successful advocacy campaign that has reaped over $1 billion in investment for the municipality—an unprecedented level in the region’s history; and having established a reputation as Gippsland’s regional city. One committed to good governance, risk, openness and transparency—as evidenced by favourable comments from both the Audit and Risk Committee and external authorities.
By any measure the last four years at Latrobe City Council have been years of exceptional performance, likely only to be fully appreciated and understood in retrospect. It is indisputable that the results achieved under Van Driel’s leadership is in stark contrast to the $2 million received by Port Augusta following the state-wide closure of coal powered electricity generation in South Australia
Mr Van Driel says, "It is with a sense of comfort that I am able to announce my resignation at a time when the operations are running well and the community remains strong, resilient and united in its vision for the future.
"It has been my privilege to be at the table with the Prime Minister, the Premier, and their respective ministers, providing an effective voice for Latrobe City families.
"The introduction of rate capping creates significant challenges for regions such as ours where our streams of income are limited and I am proud of our fiscally prudent performance.
"Serving as the CEO of Latrobe City Council has been one of the proudest moments of my 35 year career in local government and I thank everyone in the community who has allowed me and my dedicated team to serve them, work alongside them and assist them as a good local government should."
