What A "Year For A Volunteer" At The Wonthaggi Visitor Information CentreThe Wonthaggi Visitor Information Centre recently welcomed back long time volunteer Mr. Frank Waters... By Bass Coast Shire Council - 3rd October 2001 - Back to News The Wonthaggi Visitor Information Centre recently welcomed back long time volunteer Mr. Frank Waters. Frank was seriously injured in a car accident in June in Mirboo North and spent four months in hospital.
"Frank has been a volunteer at the Wonthaggi Visitor Information Centre for eight years and his absence left a large gap in our team of volunteers," said Euan Wightman, Visitor Services Officer with Bass Coast Shire Council. "We were all extremely concerned when Frank was in the accident and it is terrific to have him back on board."
Frank has already got back into the swing of volunteering for the Centre by undertaking various administration duties from his home in Wonthaggi. Frank will gradually work his way back into his former role at the Centre. A key part of his role is to ensure that the Centre is always well stocked with tourist information brochures. There are more than 300 brochures at the Centre with information about everything from local attractions, the region and Victoria.
Euan explained that the number of visitors to the Centre is steadily increasing and the dedication of volunteers like Frank is essential in the Centre’s smooth operation.
"Frank thrives on the challenges offered by working at the Visitor Information Centre and I guess that’s the same tenacity and strength of character that helped him through the past few months" said Euan.
Frank said that after four months at the La Trobe Regional Hospital he is glad to be back in Wonthaggi and close to family and friends.
"I would like to thank all of the rescue team, medical and associated staff at Wonthaggi and La Trobe Hospitals for making my recovery possible," said Frank. "You don’t realise how dedicated and professional these people are until your life depends on them."
"I would also like to thank the caterers at both hospitals," he continued.
"I have become a connoisseur of fine hospital dining after four months recovery and thoroughly recommend the three course menus at both hospitals," said Mr. Waters who has managed to maintain his sense of humour throughout his ordeal.
