Partnership and collaboration between Monash Gippsland and local primary and secondary schools in preparing quality teachers for the 21st century will be highlighted at the Education Expo to be held in the Hexagon at the Gippsland Campus on Tuesday, October 7 from 10am to 3pm. Fourth year Education students will share their experiences and knowledge gained while undertaking work placements over the past 12 months. Mentor teachers and Principals from participating schools, representatives from the wider education community and current 1st to 3rd year Education students will also be attending.

Associate Professor Andrew Beer, Flinders University, Adelaide and Terry Clower, University of North Texas will be guest speakers at the Institute for Regional Studies Forum to be held on Friday, October 17 at 12.30pm at Monash University Gippsland Campus. Associate Professor Beer will compare the Economic Development of Australia, England, the US and Northern Ireland while Terry Clower will address lessons learned from his research which includes economic development in metropolitan and non-metropolitan parts of the US, practitioner training and research on homelessness.

"Watt and the Australian Accounting Charter: Another Interpretative Thread" is the title of the Business & Economics Research Forum to be presented by Mr Les Hardy, Lecturer in Accounting and Finance on Tuesday, October 14 in the Business & Economics Conference Room, Gippsland Campus at 1pm.

The School of Engineering at the Gippsland Campus recently held the annual Residential School for postgraduate students in Maintenance and Reliability Engineering. Twenty-four students, Australian and international, took part in visits to local companies, Australian Paper, Edison Mission, ETRS, Hydroaire, Loy Yang Power mine, attended lectures by Engineering staff and a focus group on WebCT. Other highlights included a presentation by visiting guest speaker, Dr Peter Knights from the Catholic University Chile in Santiago and their individual project presentations.

Loretta Hambly, Director Strategic Planning has flown to Montreal to join other administrative and academic staff from Universities in Australia, South Africa and Hong Kong, on a two week tour of twelve universities in Canada. The theme of the study tour is ‘Successfully Managing and Developing University Entrepreneurial Activities’. The group will be investigating the commercialisation of research, joint ventures with industry and government and other entrepreneurial activities.
