• Making the Grade

The Faculty of Business and Economics, Monash University Gippsland Campus has recently developed a new collaborative program with Southern Yangtze University in China. As part of the program Ms Zheng, Yao Jane, Visiting Academic from Southern Yangtze has arrived and will be spending the next eight weeks working with Monash staff. This will be the first of many staff exchanges to build the relationships between Monash University and Southern Yangtze University. This program enables students to complete 2 years study in China then transfer to Monash Gippsland for the final 2 years of their degree.

A Memorandum of Understanding has been signed between Monash University Gippsland Campus and GHD Pty. Ltd. a leading engineering consultancy. The partners will enjoy a mutual collaboration and resource sharing, under the agreement. The agreement will provide Monash students with opportunities to work with experts in the field as well as allowing them access to state of the art commercial facilities. Gippsland campus Pro-Vice Chancellor, Brian Mackenzie has described it as an example of the mutual beneficial links Monash aims to establish between its Gippsland campus and local industries.

Body Image in the Bush will be explored at an event on Wednesday 10 November, 10am – 4.30pm at Monash University Gippsland Campus. Organised by the Victorian Government – Department for Youth Affairs, Absolutely Women’s Health and Corporeal Workplace Wellbeing. The Keynote speaker, Dr. Rick Kausman is the AMA spokesperson for Eating Behaviour and Weight Management and author of the award winning book "If Not Dieting, Then What?". He will discuss the language of food, fat, size and shape. Other features of the program will be local practitioners talking about their innovative work, programs and services as well as discussions on healthy body image and much more.

An evening event on the same day 7pm – 9pm will discuss ways that parents and carers can accept, enjoy and look after their bodies and themselves and help their children to do the same. Take a step in the right direction! MUGC staff are urged to take a step in the right direction and join Occupational Health Safety and Environment (OHSE) and Monash sport in the annual campus walk. The walks are part of the OHSE health promotion program which encourages staff to lead a healthy lifestyle. Each walk is approx. 2.5kms and ends with a free fruit snack and drink. MUGC walk (in conjunction with Churchill and Monash Leisure Centre) will take place on Tuesday 9 November at 1.05pm. For further information contact Vonnie Marion, Campus Nurse on 5122 6425.
