Newborough Power Futsal ClubNEWBOROUGH POWER FUTSAL REPORT By Damian Gilbert - 2nd March 2007 - Back to News The Futsal Federation of Australia and Oceania will be opening the Newborough Power Futsal Club on the 14th of March at Lowanna College, Newark Avenue, Newborough. This will be a great relief to the Newborough Power National League side who has, for the past 12 months, not had a permanent home to base their club at. Futsal (Indoor Soccer) itself was a very large sport in the Moe area several years ago but through lack of management and competitions the sport was allowed to fade away. Newborough Power’s manager, Mr Damian Gilbert, is thrilled to see the original South American brand of Futsal back in his home town. Newborough Power is one of the unsung heroes of FFAO’s National League having finished runners up for season 2006. They also won the coveted Bendigo Cup and are currently lying 2nd to Gold Coast Spartans on the current National League table. They produced 5 members of last year’s Men’s National Futsal side that competed in the European Championships in Catalonia. The current National men’s training squad, which is preparing for a major tournament in Russia in June and the AMF World Cup in Mendosa, Argentina in September, has 2 current squad members, goalkeeper Damian Gilbert and pivot Rayvel Whiting.
Registration times for interested Futsal players are as follows:
- Wednesday 7 March - 6.00 – 8.00pm
- Thursday 8 March - 6.00 – 8.00pm
- Friday 9 March - 6.00 – 8.00pm
- Saturday 10 March - 9.00am – 11.00am
Competitions start as follows:
- Wednesday 14 March
- Thursday 15 March
- Friday 16 March
- Saturday 17 March
In the not too distant future, hopefully the first week back in term 2, we’ll see two of FFAO’s premier Brazilian players, Andre Rodriguez and Juliano Pilatti, in Moe for 3 days of clinics.
