Queen's Baton Relay - XVIII Commonwealth Games

The Queen's Baton Relay is a tradition of the Commonwealth Games and this year it is bigger than ever as it will travel 180,000km, to all 71 Commonwealth nations before arriving in Australia.

Once the opening ceremony takes place in Melbourne, the baton will have travelled more than 21,000km of Australia, carried by 3,500 runners. 47 Ceremonies will have taken place along the way. Latrobe City is Day 35 & 36 of this journey......

Queens Baton Relay in Latrobe

Tuesday 28 February - Day 35

Baton arrives in Traralgon from Bombala at 5:11pm via Argyle Street travelling down Franklin Street, Hotham Street, Breed Street, Seymour Street, Franklin Street to Kay Street.

A Cultural Concert will be held in Kay Street on Traralgon on the evening of Tuesday 28 February 2006. To celebrate the arrival of the Baton in Traralgon, there will be entertainment from 3pm until 6:30pm, with the arrival of the Queen's Baton a highlight of these activities.

Wednesday 1 March - Day 36

The Queens Baton Relay will depart from Victory Park Traralgon on the morning of Wednesday 1 March, 2006 at approximately 7:24am travelling along Peterkin Street, Argyle Street, Grey Street, Franklin Street, Seymour Street, Breed Street, Grey Street, Grubb Avenue, Kay Street, Kosciuszko Street. Peterkin Street will be closed to the pubilc from 6am-8am.

The baton will then travel to Morwell with the relay re-commencing Churchill Road at approximaetly 8:45am and travelling down Churchill Road, Vincent Road, Donald Street, McDonald Street, crossing Princes Way and running down Commercial Road. The convoy will then depart for Moe where the relay commences in Anzac Street at approximately 9:30am and travels down Anzac Street, Haigh Street, Moore Street, George Street to Waterloo Road and into Apex Park. The relay will then depart Moe on its journey to Warragul at approximately 10am. Apex Park, Moe will be closed to the public from 8am until 11am.

Queen's Baton Relay Celebration Site

The Queen's Baton Celebration Site will be in Kay Street, Traralgon on Tuesday 28 February 2006. Activities commence with a Cultural Concert including performances from 10 local Primary Schools who were randomly selected - performing acts from different Commonwealth Countries.

KODE - Malta
Newborough - Malaysia
Yallourn North - New Zealand
Crinigan Road - Pakistan

Liddiard Road - Australia

The activities start at 3pm with the Cultural Concert with the highlight of the proceedings being the arrival of the relay baton on site.

Support the relay runners as they make their way through the streets of Latrobe.

Line the streets, or come and enjoy the colourful festivities taking place at the Celebration Site in Kay Street, Traralgon on the afternoon and evening of 28 February 2006.
