He explained to a large audience which included The Treasurer John Brumby MP, Elaine Saunders Telstra Business Woman of the Year, The American and British Consul Generals and the Hon Dr Barry Jones AO. He described how Gippsland had taken innovation and used it as a means to unite the region and celebrate diversity. My Buckley also explained that innovation in Gippsland was seen as 'Making Good Ideas Happen'. The best results were achieved when business, government and community came together to solve issues and come up with new ways to doing things. Many of the audience were surprised to hear that Gippsland has over 210,000 people and covers 20% of the State. With over 40 events, the Gippsland Innovation Festival is now the largest regional innovation festival. It is starting to have an impact on the National Innovation Agenda. The Hon Dr Barry Jones AO was the Key note speaker and followed Mr Buckley. He responded by changing his intended speech to endorse Gippsland's definition of innovation as a far more practical and preferable definition than one focussed soley on business outcomes. He spoke at length about the importance of non-commerical outcomes of innovation.
