A Corporate Accountability Conference held on February 8 and 9 provided a forum to discuss mechanisms that minimize or prevent the sorts of problems that bring about the collapse and under-performance of many corporations worldwide. Dr Gerald Acquaah-Gaisie, Faculty of Business & Economics at the Gippsland Campus was one of the primary organisers of the Melbourne-based conference.

Direct entry applications for the Double Degree, Bachelor of Psychology and Business at the Gippsland Campus has been extended until February 20. Prospective students can apply through VTAC to study either on campus or through Off Campus Learning.

Jacqueline Hellings, PhD student, Gippsland School of Applied Sciences & Engineering will be speaking at a Research Seminar on Friday, February 17 at 1pm at the Gippsland Campus. Ms Hellings will discuss ‘Centipeda Cunninghamii’ which is an Australian plant that has been used medicinally both here in Australia and overseas. This seminar will cover the preliminary stages of trying to isolate and then identify the compounds in the plant that are responsible for its biological activity.

  • Making the Grade

Staff from the Gippsland Campus have presented outstanding Year 11 students with the Monash Prize. Tina Howe presented to Parag Manihar from St Paul’s Warragul and Melanie Bryant presented the prize to Alex Hawke from Traralgon Secondary.

Thirty-one students have been selected to take part in the inaugural Co-operative Education Program at the Gippsland Campus. These students will undertake work place training, be employed in the Gippsland community and receive up to $17,000 while they study at Monash University Gippsland Campus. The program is expected to double in size in 2007.

The Gippsland Regional Automation Centre (GRACe) at the Gippsland Campus is operational. GRACe was established in 2005 with a grant of $500,000 from the Victorian Government’s Science Technology and Innovation Initiative and an additional $500,000 in cash and kind from a local consortium. The main focus of GRACe’s business is industrial automation in key regional industries with the initial project being ‘Intelligent Fish Sorting’, working with the Lakes Entrance Fisherman’s Co-operative.
