Phillip Island Decider

The 2006 V8 Championship Series will be decided at the Caterpillar Grand Finale on Phillip Island from 8-10 December.

By Bass Coast Shire Council - 6th December 2006 - Back to News

Craig Lowndes is just seven points behind Rick Kelly in the Championship Series after last week’s race in Bahrain.

This makes for a nail biting finish to the Championship when any error from either team will win or lose the Championship.

A large crowd is expected at the event to see the battle for the Championship go down to the final flag. Last year, 66,000 people attended the event over three days.

People not attending the event are advised to plan their trips in order to avoid inconvenience from the V8 Supercar traffic.

Council’s Special Events Coordinator, Frank Angarane confirmed that there are traffic management plans in place for the event.

"There are similar arrangements in place to those we organise for the Grand Prix," said Mr Angarane.

Residents are advised of the following traffic management plans:

  • Saturday, 9 December - traffic to the Circuit from Cowes will be via Berrys Beach Road
  • Sunday, 10 December – Back Beach Road will be one way in and one way out from the Circuit
  • Sunday, 10 December – the Blue Line will operate to Grantville

This year, there will be activities in Cowes on Saturday night for the first time during the V8 Supercars.

There will be a licensed area in the Jetty Triangle with live band, Drive playing in the evening.

Leading up to the band, there will be a performance by the Miss V8 Supercar group.

There will also be a set area outside the Jetty Triangle, to allow those not wishing to be in the licensed area to view the entertainment.

Mr Angarane advised that The Esplanade and Jetty Triangle would be closed on Saturday and Saturday night.

"The area will be properly controlled in a similar to fashion to when the Grand Prix entertainment takes place.

"Any other street closures in Cowes will be flexible and dependent on crowd numbers," he said.
