Making the Grade

Caitlyn Grigsby, Business and Commerce student at the Gippsland Campus has been accepted into the Vice Chancellor’s Ancora Imparo Program. This program has been designed to assist passionate and idealistic students to inspire and develop their leadership potential to serve and bring about constructive change in society.

The recent issue of the Gippsland Heritage Journal contains articles by two Gippsland students, Coral Dow and Cathie Cullen. Coral writes on the environmental history and the history of the Lakes National Park and Cathie’s article deals with Gippsland naturalist and botanical artist, Ruth Clark.

Chris Laming from the Social and Community Welfare Section attended the Gippsland Family Violence Conference on 25 November. Chris has recently submitted his PhD entitled "A Constructivist Approach to Challenging Men’s Violence Against Women." At the conference there was an emphasis on greater collaboration between mainstream and aboriginal family violence services including the provision of needs based training for aboriginal workers.

Gippsland School of Information Technology PhD student Mr. Ziaur Rahman has been granted a provisional patent for his research on Source Localisation in Wireless Sensor Networks. One of his particular applications has been finding a solution to the serious wild dog problem affecting remote East Gippsland sheep farming communities.
