Choices For Power

The Essential Services Commission (ESC), the regulator of Victoria’s essential utility services, has launched a campaign to educate Victorians about electricity and gas choices.

By Bass Coast Shire Council - 17th August 2006 - Back to News

"Many people are confused about their energy retailer options and it’s important they know they have alternatives," said ESC chairperson, Greg Wilson.

"There’s no need to change if you’re happy with your retailer, but people do have the opportunity to switch at any time.

"With 10 gas and electricity retailers in Victoria, we’re quite spoilt for choice."

Bass Coast’s Mayor, Cr Neville Goodwin congratulated the ESC on the campaign.

"Even though here in Bass Coast we don’t yet have natural gas available, the advice is relevant for electricity suppliers," said Cr Goodwin.

"It’s important to know what the options are.

"People are certainly entitled to get the best service available."

As part of the campaign, the ESC has developed an easy-to-understand ‘Choice’ brochure, detailing tips on how to compare costs and services.

For more information, or for a copy of the brochure, contact the ESC on 1300 134 575 or visit www.esc.vic.gov.au .
