Maffra's technology expo a great success!Fun for everyone By Emma Kae - 29th November 2001 - Back to News
Maffra’s technology expedition was deemed a great success. The expo was created to illustrate technology and its uses in modern society to an excited public.
The expo included demonstrations, information sessions and light entertainment, including a performance from the community band in front of the Maffra Community Hall (below).

Tours of the Maffra hall were conducted for the curious. Maffra’s little helpers gave a brief history of the hall and its uses, and educated visitors on local heritage (below).

There were demonstrations on how technology could be used to do extraordinary tasks in everyday situations. This truck (below) uses the Global Positioning System (an interactive mapping system that uses satellite communication) to efficiently lay fertilizer on the land.

Computer based demonstrations were conducted by Stephen Bell and Graeme Pearce of GDL, Tony from the Gippsland Portal and Bill Jackson from the Maffra Telecentre (below).
The expo was attended by industry specialists, technological minded locals and the inquisitive from near and far. Many examples, shows and gadgets later, the expo was named a great success and everyone went home.
