Bushfire Relief Centres OpenBushfire Relief Centres in Sale Bairnsdale and Traralgon will open from 1.00pm Friday (8 December). By Municipal Emergency Co-Ordination Centre - 12th December 2006 - Back to News The Relief Centres are marshalling and information points for any residents who leave or cannot reach their homes because of the fires.
"The Centres can provide information and assistance to anyone affected by the fires," said Mr Jim Wilson, Acting CEO of Wellington Shire Council.
All residents leaving their homes are encouraged to call in and register at a Relief Centre
"Even if you have somewhere else to go we would like people to register at a Centre.
"This could save the authorities valuable time if the whereabouts of some residents is uncertain," said Mr Wilson.
The three Relief Centres will operate 24 hours until the bushfire emergency has passed. The Centres are located at:
Sale – Stephenson’s Park, Guthridge Parade
Bairnsdale - 66 McCulloch St (next to the East Gippsland Shire offices)
Traralgon – Senior Citizens Centre in Victory Park (Princes Hwy)
"We encourage all residents to keep in touch with the local media for regular bushfire updates and warnings," said Mr Wilson.
Please note the Relief Centres are only for people have left or can’t reach their homes. They cannot provide general bushfire information. General bushfire information is available from:
