Latrobe City Council is no longer processing a planning permit application for the installation of temporary emergency power generation in Morwell following an amendment made to the Planning and Environment Act 1987.

Latrobe City Council general manager City Development Phil Stone said notification has been received that an amendment to the Act had be approved.

"Council has been advised the State Minister for Planning, Richard Wynne, has used his power under the Planning and Environment Act 1987 to place a specific site exclusion into the Latrobe Planning Scheme for the former Morwell Power Station site," Mr Stone said.

"This site exclusion means that a planning permit is not required for the use and development of the land for temporary emergency power generation.

"The amendment is effective from 1 December 2017."
