Council adopts Bass Coast Inclusive Mountain Bike/BMX/Pump Strategy to expand and enhance off-road cycling recreation

Bass Coast Shire Council has officially adopted the Bass Coast Mountain Bike/BMX/Pump Strategy, a comprehensive plan aimed at expanding and enhancing off road cycling and recreational opportunities across the region. This inclusive strategy responds to the growing community interest in mountain biking, BMX, and pump track activities, outlining a clear vision for new infrastructure development.

Strategy ensures inclusivity

Developed through extensive community engagement, the Strategy has received valuable input from key stakeholders including the:

• Bass Coast Mountain Bike Association
• Parks Victoria
• Phillip Island Nature Parks
• Department of Energy, Environment and Climate Action
• Dedicated community reference group

The Strategy is designed to meet the varied needs of the Bass Coast community, ensuring that the new facilities are accessible to people of all ages, abilities, and interests.

The Strategy identifies a range of suitable sites across the Shire for potential development, ensuring that these spaces are not only well-planned but also inclusive of different recreational activities. Whether it's a young child on a scooter, a BMX rider, or an experienced mountain biker, the new facilities will cater to a broad spectrum of users, encouraging more people to engage in physical activities.

Bass Coast Mayor Cr Clare Le Serve highlighted the broad appeal of the Strategy, stating, "The Bass Coast Mountain Bike/BMX/Pump Strategy is not just for experienced off-road cyclists - these pump tracks and facilities are designed to be enjoyed by all ages and levels of ability and will suit those simply looking to engage in a fun and active lifestyle."
