Ltd." is writing to shareholders of various companies, offering to buy their shares at ridiculously low prices. One shareholder was offered $5000 for 500 shares when the market price would have yielded $48475. Another was offered $10 each for securities that were worth $81. The company has made millions of dollars over the last few years in this way, and what they are doing is not illegal. They can only succeed because some shareholders do not know the true value of the shares they hold, and sell them to this company at a low price. Never! sell shares before first checking the market price. The current share prices are printed daily in every major newspaper. Home Security:There has been an occasion recently where someone was out of the house and did not lock the doors. The house was entered by someone who stole several items. On another occasion a resident discovered a stranger in the back yard, when challenged, he said he was just having a look, and left. Thieves are opportunists and are continually looking for the chance to enter property and steal anything of value. If you have a security door keep it locked. It is of no use if it can be opened from outside. Recently a resident answered the front door, and was confronted by an irrational person demanding a cup of tea in a threatening manner. Fortunately the security door was locked, and the person could not enter the house. If you do not have a security door NEVER open the door until you know who is on the other side. Fit a door viewer to your front door, or invest in a security door, or better still do both! When you see someone acting suspiciously or find an intruder on your property, or any other unusual occurrence, ring the Police on 000 and report the matter, no matter how trivial it may seem the Police want to know. The incident may fit in with other patterns of behaviour. Setting a Good Example:When you have the care of young children, as a parent or grandparent, you have to be aware, that what you do will probably be copied by the children when they get older. For instance, if you are in the habit of crossing the road as a pedestrian against the lights, or take risks on the road when driving a car, children learn by example, and will think this behaviour is normal, and will do the same when they get older. How many drivers we see running red lights today are really only copying what their parents did? Adults have an obligation to the children in their care to ensure that they grow up to be responsible citizens. Police Crime Report for May 2002, NHW Area LTB1 Bridle Estate
