‘Governing Agriculture through the Managerial Capacities of Farmers: The Role of Calculation’ will be presented by Dr Vaughan Higgins at the Humanities, Communications and Social Sciences Research Forum on Thursday, October 7 at 1pm. Dr Higgins will focus on a training course seeking to build ‘good’ planning practices of farmers in the Australian dairy industry.

The exhibition to open at the Switchback Gallery on Tuesday, October 5 is titled ‘Room to Move’ which brings together four young contemporary artists from Victoria and South Australia. First exhibited in Melbourne as part of the Midsumma Festival earlier this year, ‘Room to Move’ features a photography and sculptural installation created around the themes of portraiture and sexuality. This exhibition has been co-curated by Mark McDean, Lecturer at the Gippsland Centre for Art and Design.

A two day workshop entitled ‘A Regional Affair’ will be held at Forestech, Kalimna on October 14 and 15. A partnership between The Centre for Rural Communities Inc and Youth CAAB Project East Gippsland seeks to bring together people and institutions with a common interest in the future of rural communities and gain an insight into increasing the skill base to get people to stay local.

Greg Simmons and Maureen Cluderay from the Centre for Learning and Teaching Support at the Gippsland Campus were awarded the 25 year service medal at a ceremony held last week at the Clayton Campus. Deputy Chancellor, Dr June Hearn presented the medals to staff who included members of Monash University following mergers with the former Gippsland Institute of Advanced Education, Chisholm Institute of Technology and the Victorian College of Pharmacy. The ceremony marked the tenth occasion at which medals have been presented.

Students at this months Monash Gippsland Graduation Ceremony will be the first graduates since 1987 to take part in the ceremony off campus at Kernot Hall, Morwell on October 9 from 11am. The Occasional Address will be delivered by Professor Max King, Deputy Dean and Director of the Research Graduate School of the Faculty of Business & Economics.
