Weekly Bulletin – Monday, November 3, 2003Mark the calendar By Monash University - 31st October 2003 - Back to News The new four-year Civil and Environmental Engineering course will be launched at an Industry Forum to be held on Wednesday, November 5 from 5pm in Business & Economics Conference Room at the Gippsland Campus. The forum will recognise assistance by local companies and their continued support in the establishment of the Civil and Environmental Engineering Course which is expected to be a positive catalyst for the region.
‘Call Centre Outsourcing to India – The Revenge of History?’ is the title of the Institute for Regional Studies seminar to be presented by Dr Phil Taylor, University of Stirling, Scotland on Monday, November 10 at 12.30pm in the Business & Economics Conference Room, Gippsland Campus. At a time when call centres are becoming of vital importance to the local economy, headlines announce the flight of Australian call centres to India. The seminar will engage with issues of crucial importance to the globalisation debate in general and the Latrobe Valley in particular.
The Centre for Gippsland Studies is hosting an Archaeological conference on Saturday, November 8 from 10am to 4pm at Monash University Gippsland Campus. The conference will explore the related disciplines of archaeology and history in the Gippsland region with local historians, archaeologists and speakers discussing Aboriginal and Chinese history, shipping and shipwrecks, the fishing industry, selection, social life and garden history.
‘Management Development: Where to from here?’ is the title of the Faculty of Business & Economics Research Forum to be presented by Professor Serge Mukhi on Tuesday, November 11 at 1pm at the Gippsland Campus. Professor Mukhi is Foundation Professor of Management and Special advisor to the Vice-Chancellor on international relations at the University of Technology, Sydney and has over 25 years experience in managerial skills training in both the private and public sectors.
‘Finding Peace in the House of Fear’ is the title of the School of Humanities, Communications and Social Sciences to be presented by Dr Arthur Jones on Thursday, November 6 from 1pm in the Link Room at the Gippsland Campus. Dr Jones will discuss the increase of fear in the Western world since September 11 with insights from one of the counsellors at Ground Zero and the failure to understand cultural diversities and sociological complexities which has led to the current global consequences, especially in the outcomes of political decisions.

With the launch of the new Undergraduate Course, Civil and Environmental Engineering, the School of Applied Sciences at the Gippsland Campus has been officially renamed the School of Applied Sciences and Engineering.
