FARM MONITOR PROJECT RESULTS AVAILABLE

Results of the DPI/Dairy Australia 2007/08 Dairy Industry Farm Monitor Project are now available on the DPI website.

The project provides a financial and comparative analysis of 73 dairy farms from across three regions – Northern Victoria, South Western Victoria and Gippsland.

The farm level data is relevant to the dairy industry and relates to productivity gains and profitability as well as identifying the key drivers of productivity and profitability growth.

The analysis showed that in 2007/08 the average profitability of participating farms was $2.39kgMS sold or $1460/ha.

This equaled an average return on assets RoA (not including capital gains) of 10% across the state, with a range of -6% to 21%. By comparison, the All Ordinaries lost 15% on its opening value over the same period.

The analysis of 73 dairy farms across the state can be found at: www.dpi.vic.gov.au/dairyfarmmonitor

BAG A GRANT AND IMPROVE YOUR RECREATIONAL FISHING

Organisations wanting to improve their local fishing are encouraged to submit project proposals to the 2008/09 round of the Brumby Government’s Recreational Fishing Grants Program.

Minister Responsible for Fisheries Joe Helper said all recreational fishing clubs and organisations, as well as many other groups, had been invited to submit proposals for projects that would improve Victorian recreational fishing.

Submissions are sought in four funding categories:

  • fisheries’ sustainability and habitat improvement (including fish stocking);
  • fishing access and facilities;
  • fisheries-related education, information and training (including a new small events grant program); and
  • recreational fisheries-related research.

The Recreational Fishing Grants Program is open to incorporated bodies, registered companies and government and statutory bodies but anyone interested should submit an application.

For application forms call the Program Manager Recreational Fishing Licence Revenue Expenditure on (03) 9658 4727, the DPI Customer Service Centre on 136 186, or visit www.dpi.vic.gov.au/fishing/fishinggrants
