Club Rooms Renovated And Ready For UseThe renovation of the club rooms at the Newhaven Recreation Reserve has been completed. By Bass Coast Shire Council - 18th May 2009 - Back to News Bass Coast Shire Council formally handed over the rooms to the Phillip Island Soccer Club this week.
The $225,000 upgrade included the construction of a new multi-purpose room, a disability compliant toilet, referees room, kitchen and kiosk. Additional work was undertaken on the existing change rooms and toilets to cater for the expanding competitions using the facilities.
Council’s Arts and Leisure Coordinator, Jenny Churchill, said the renovation was a terrific achievement.
"The Phillip Island Soccer Club really needs to be congratulated, as they have been the driving force behind this project," said Ms Churchill.
"They secured funding from Council, the Department of Planning and Community Development (DPCD) and from the Bendigo Bank.
"The club had a vision for the new rooms and worked extremely hard to make sure it became a reality."
Elaine Burke, Secretary of the Phillip Island Soccer Club said all of Bass Coast could take pride in the facility.
"We are proud to have not only an aesthetically pleasing building, but an excellent multi- purpose venue suitable for a wide range of user groups, not only sporting clubs," said Elaine.
"The rooms are currently used on a seasonal agreement to Phillip Island Soccer Club, and also Phillip Island Cricket Club and Westernport Tennis Club.
"These new facilities will provide a wonderful environment for the clubs, and importantly, they now cater for people with disabilities," continued Elaine.
"This will encourage participation and inclusion in what has traditionally been a restricted ability venue."
Elaine said the Club extended their heartfelt thanks to the many people who had supported the project.
"We would like to thank Council, particularly Jenny Churchill for her unwavering support and input, and Trevor Dando who has overseen the gritty details of the construction," said Elaine.
"The redevelopment also would not have been possible without the support of Michael Scott and Terry Ashendon from the Bendigo Bank.
"Local designer Darren Brown was able to put down on the paper the ramblings of a very eager group of volunteers and interpret our vision for the club rooms," continued Elaine.
"And the team from Loizou Design and Construction, particularly Louie Loizou, Peter Wolf, and Adrian Soban did a wonderful job."
The official opening of the new rooms will be held in mid June 2009.
