The VGT is one of three Community Pest Management Groups (CPMG) taking a community-led approach to tackling wide spread invasive plants in VGT Chair, Peter Everist, said Mr Herbertson, who will be based at Ballarat, will play a key role in promoting and implementing the goals of the Victorian Gorse Strategy. "This involves developing effective, integrated gorse management strategies at local, regional and state levels and linking to national programs," Mr Everist said. "Other key responsibilities will include liaison with all levels of government, industry and the community to improve gorse management and build the capacity of the VGT to coordinate public gorse awareness campaigns." Mr Everist said the position is partly funded by the Victorian Government’s four-year Future Farming Strategy, which is investing an additional $20 million for pest management across a range of projects. "While there is extensive and excellent on-ground work already underway, there is a need for a more strategic and streamlined effort at a state, regional and local level. Mr Herbertson brings with him the expertise to deliver this," Mr Everist said.
