Dr Helen Sheil and Kate Cartwright were keynote presenters at the Anglicare Forum, Kernot Hall on Friday, June 13. The forum is part of the Bishop of Gippsland’s Family Appeal and has a theme of ‘Building for the Future’ using a Community Development Approach to achieve long term sustainable growth for Gippsland. The presentation provides an opportunity to showcase the partnership of the Centre for Rural Communities and Monash University in the Graduate Certificate of Regional Community Development and its relevance to rural development.

Students studying off-campus with Monash Gippsland’s Centre for Art and Design will have the opportunity to display art work and critique the work of others at the Postgraduate Winter Residential Symposium from June 23-27. Off-campus students from all over Australia come together for a week and undertake a series of presentations, critiques and seminars in the disciplines of ceramics, painting, visual arts and photography.

A highlight of the Centre for Art and Design Residential Symposium will be the Annual Public Lecture which will be presented by Stephen Naylor on Wednesday, June 25 at 6pm in lecture theatre 5N148 at the Gippsland Campus.

Associate Professor Tony Taylor, Director of the National Centre for History Education, has received a prestigious $115,000 Australian Research Council linkage grant to determine what makes a good teacher of history and to communicate that information to all educators. By improving the quality of history teaching, Associate Professor Taylor hopes to give students the skills to deal with day-to-day problems within a historical framework. The highly sought after grant is very difficult to obtain and is a step in the continuous development of research at the Gippsland Campus.

The Tertiary Information Service (TIS) will be touring Gippsland from June 17-19 visiting Bairnsdale, Sale, Warragul, Leongatha, Moe and Traralgon. Over the three day period approximately 3000 students from Gippsland secondary schools will take part in the tour. TIS was set up 25 years ago to provide prospective students information about their tertiary options and is the only cooperative venture involving Universities and TAFE’s from all over Australia, designed to inspire students to undertake further study beyond their VCE. Staff from Marketing & Public Affairs at the Gippsland Campus will be representing Monash University on the tour.
