• Medical School 2008

An update open to all staff interested in the Gippsland Campus Medical School will be held on June 15 from 12noon until 1pm. Staff will be updated on the progress of the new medical school which is to open in 2008. This will include an outline of key objectives in the coming months, student and staff recruitment, building requirements and course structure.

• Making the Grade

Ms Anne Leversha, Monash Senior Lecturer in Pharmacy at the Gippsland Regional Clinical School has won a 2006 Rural Health Award for her work in health education and professional development in pharmacy. Ms Leversha was one of five regional winners announced in May at the Rural Health Week launch in Shepparton. She was nominated by the Society of Hospital Pharmacists for her work in practising and promoting rural clinical pharmacy during her 25-year career in Victoria.

Monash staff and the local community are asked to become involved in the ‘Community Mentoring Pilot Program’ for students from Southern Yangtze University in Semester 2, 2006 being introduced at Monash Gippsland. It is hoped that community members will be able to assist with cultural exchange and understanding, involve students in family and community life, expand experiences beyond University life, explore the environment, attend community events and provide open-minded personal support. • Mark the Calendar

Monash Gippsland is gearing up for a big week of secondary school visits both on and off campus. Kate Spencer from Marketing and Public Affairs will be attending Wantirna College on Tuesday, June 13 for their Transition Presentation involving 75 Year 10 students. On Wednesday, 14th June, 160 Year 11 students from St Pauls Anglican Grammar, Warragul and on Thursday, June 15th , 50 Year 10 students from Lilydale Heights Secondary College will be visiting the Gippsland Campus undertaking campus tours, interactive activities and a complimentary pizza lunch.

Kerry Laughton is a HUMCASS PhD student writing a PhD thesis on the developing coffee production in Timor and the benefits it will bring to the local inhabitants. Ms. Laughton has spent time in Timor and would be available to speak on her experiences in light of the current situation in East Timor.
