The Allan Labor government is building on its support for regional Victoria with exciting new projects set to boost local economies, build even stronger communities, and give people even more reasons to stop and visit. $5.2 million in grants will support projects across the Gippsland region through the Labor government's $25 million Council Support Package. The package, now fully acquitted, has successfully helped shovel-ready projects get off the ground in our biggest regional cities and surrounding towns.

Community development

The package funds projects that are designed to increase tourism, improve local infrastructure, strengthen businesses, and empower volunteers - with grants ranging from $20,000 and $5 million depending on size and scope.

With this investment, the Latrobe City Council will be supported to deliver upgrades to sporting facilities and streetscapes, improved volunteer and sports participation, accessibility and inclusion programs, and increased support for Aboriginal owned businesses.

Enhancing Gippsland tourism

In South Gippsland, we're taking our support for the Great Southern Rail Trail a step further with activation initiatives including public art, signage, brochure and map, development of a passport activity and a major endurance public event.

East Gippsland Shire will also receive $100,000 towards a new Lakes Entrance Water Sports Pavilion at Cummingham Arm to safely house water sport equipment, enhancing the tourism product offering and complementing the Krauatungalung Walk.

Record regional investment

The Council Support Package has backed 27 projects across regional Victoria, and complements the Tiny Towns Fund, which is backing projects that really matter to local communities in smaller towns of up to 5,000 people. Tiny Towns Fund first round projects will be announced in the coming months, with both programs delivered through Regional Development Victoria.

These initiatives are part of the Labor government's record $45 billion investment in regional Victoria since 2014, making our regions even better places to live, work and visit. For more information visit Council Support Package - Regional Development Victoria website.

Supporting regional development

Minister for Regional Development Gayle Tierney said, "We're proud to support so many exciting projects across rural and regional Victoria that will lead to better public spaces, more economic activity and better outcomes for visitors and locals. These projects are shovel-ready meaning that we're ready to support better outcomes that benefit our regions sooner.

Member for Eastern Victoria Harriet Shing said, "With these new projects, we are ensuring that Gippsland continues to thrive, offering improved infrastructure and attractions that benefit both locals and visitors alike."
