Statement from Member for Gippsland Darren Chester
Darren Chester contacted Morwell Bowling Club's board to offer support after today's fire. While significant losses occurred, firefighters saved parts of the facility.
I have contacted the board of Morwell Bowling Club and offered my support as the volunteers and staff come to terms with the devastating losses that were sustained in this morning's fire. The club is an integral part of the Latrobe Valley community and the loss of memorabilia and equipment is devastating for all club members and visitors.
Thanks to the Fire Rescue Victoria and CFA crews for their hard work and collaboration in tackling the Morwell Bowling Club fire, parts of the facility were saved
Thanks to the hard work of firefighters, sections of the facility were saved and a full assessment of the damage will be undertaken in the days ahead before decisions are made on the best way forward.
My thoughts are with the staff, volunteers and club members as they come to terms with their loss. I will work with the Morwell Bowling Club members to assist in any way possible as they deal with the aftermath of the fire, and urge all levels of government to provide their support, as needed.
