A workshop discussing continuity and succession planning in family businesses is being facilitated by Latrobe City Council’s Economic Development Unit. The workshop ‘Continuity and Succession Planning in the Family Business’ as well as one-on-one consultation, will be delivered by Mr Lucio Dana, a specialist in working with family and owner-managed businesses to plan and implement continuity and succession strategies. Mr Dana said that building and growing a successful family owned and operated business involved hard work, and there came a time when decisions about the long-term future of the business must be made. “Planning is the key to a successful transfer of management and ownership to family successors. There will be formal arrangements to think about in any company structure and strategies will be needed to handle any differences of opinion about future directions,” Mr Dana said. “This workshop will show participants the benefits and implementation of succession planning to ensure that a family business continues beyond the lifespan of the current owner-manager.” Latrobe City Mayor, Councillor Tony Hanning said that by not addressing critical business continuity issues, the long term health or survival of a family owned business was severely threatened. “If anyone running a family business is thinking about retirement but wondering how to maintain the success of their business, then this workshop will address the critical issues,” Cr Hanning said. Latrobe City Council’s Economic Development Unit is facilitating the workshop under funding approved by the Department of State and Regional Development. A free information evening, to explain in more detail, the workshops and one-on-one consultation, will be held on Thursday 8 February, at Latrobe House in Morwell, corner of Ann Street and Hazelwood Road, commencing at 6pm.
