Monash University's new Vice-Chancellor, Professor Richard Larkins, who took up his position on the 1st September 2003, will be visiting the Gippsland Campus on Thursday, September 11, 2003 to meet with heads of academic units and also address staff and students.

Dr Harry Ballis and Mr Les Hardy will present ‘Internal History and Niebur’s Typology of Social Action: The Sacred and Secular Divide Revisited’ at the Humanities, Communications and Social Sciences Research Forum on Thursday, September 11 at 1pm. Dr Ballis and Mr Hardy critique the ‘sacred and secular’ divide that is currently used in the accounting and accountability literature to explain the use of accounting techniques within religious organisations. They offer through Neibuhr’s narrative theology an example of how religious organisations have made sense of their religious convictions and the activities of the ‘world’.

Professor Sid Gray, Head of the School of Business at the University of Sydney will be guest speaker at the Faculty of Business & Economics Research Forum on Tuesday, September 16 at 1pm presenting ‘Global Accounting Standards: Research Opportunities’. Professor Gray was an executive with international companies in the UK, India and Australia prior to becoming a university lecturer. Professor Gray’s main teaching and research interests are in the areas of international accounting and multinational enterprises, international business strategy and cross-cultural management.

• Making the Grade

To help students with their course decision making process leading up to Change of Preference Week in December, staff from the campuses seven faculties as well as Marketing and Public Affairs are attending various information evenings for students and parents at local secondary schools. The representatives are discussing course opportunities, assistance available to students and campus life.

• Open subject

A vocal of beautiful voices from Monash University’s ‘Bolle Voce’ will sing familiar favourites from Monteverdi and Mozart at the free lunch-time concert at Monash University Gippsland Campus on Monday, September 1 starting at 1.10 p.m. in the Hexagon Theatre.
