Inaugural Peggy Stevenson Tribute Breakfast To Be Held 4 MarchTo honour the life and work of the late Peggy Stevenson, a long-serving general manager at Latrobe City Council, By Latrobe City - 28th February 2011 - Back to News the Blue Stockings Inc and Latrobe City are hosting a breakfast on Friday 4 March at the Latrobe City Sports and Entertainment Centre in Morwell. Guest speaker will be Wendy Steendam, Assistant Commissioner, Eastern Region, Victoria Police.
Latrobe City’s chief executive officer, Paul Buckley, said that during her time at council, Peggy was heavily involved in women’s leadership networks.
"Peggy’s story is one of a person driven by vision, commitment, resilience and determination; these were the themes that she continually reinforced to those around her, within her family, her colleagues, and in the broader community.
"Apart from being the general manager of the city services division at Latrobe City Council, Peggy participated in several Gippsland women’s leadership networks and in 2005 she became a member of the Australian Local Government Women’s Association, working to develop one of the first regional Victorian chapters here in Gippsland.
"Peggy was also a serving Board Member of LGPro, the Association for Local Government Professionals in Victoria and in March 2006, Peggy won the SACS Consulting Award for Leadership in Local Government," Mr Buckley explained.
"Peggy had a long association with the Blue Stockings, an organisation committed, as was Peggy herself, to improving the outcomes of women in education. It is therefore fitting that all proceeds from this breakfast will go towards the Blue Stockings Inc scholarship program.
"I would like to extend an invitation to the Latrobe Valley community to attend this inaugural function in memory of this great woman and leader. Peggy made an enormous contribution to the community, and if we can inspire others to follow the same path, then our community will be all the better for it," Mr Buckley concluded.
The Peggy Stevenson Annual Tribute Breakfast will be held on Friday 4 March 2011 from 6.45 am to 8.15 am at the Ambassador Function Centre, Latrobe City Sports and Entertainment Stadium, Crinigan Road, Morwell. Tickets cost $20 and are available from the Latrobe Performing Arts Box Office on 5176 3559 and from the Latrobe Regional Gallery.
