Mayor’s Message

The holiday season is upon us and I encourage everyone to take particular care while driving.

Visitors, many unfamiliar with our roads, will be moving around the region to visit our cafes and wineries, galleries, Coal Creek and the Prom as they unwind from a busy year.

Our coastal towns in particular are bracing themselves for the influx of visitors to our beautiful region. Being the friendly lot that we are, we welcome them in our midst and offer some simple tips that will make life safer and easier for everyone over the holiday period.

• ·Calendars of changed opening times for the various transfer stations over the holiday period have been posted on the Council website www.sgsc.vic.gov.au, and are advertised in this week’s four local papers. I encourage you to cut this out and place somewhere for easy referral. Posters have also been put up in shop windows in all communities to provide easy access for visitors and local alike. We hope these efforts will minimise the amount of irresponsible dumping of rubbish that has occurred in the past.

• Whilst Council’s office and Depots will be closed from 5pm 24th December to 8.30amTues 4th January, the switchboard will be manned 24/7 over the holiday period for matters of an urgent nature, such as stock on roads or fallen trees blocking access

• At the beach, be aware of water safety, swimming between the flags and if boating, make sure you have all the necessary safety equipment. With the increased population there is greater pressure on communities and their services, including emergency services.

• Check if there are water restrictions or treatment conditions that need to be observed to maintain water health at your accommodation.
