Update On Bogong (South) Complex Fire

Stronger winds than forecast have created problems on the eastern side of the Bogong South fire in the Dellicknora, Tubbut, Cabanandra and Bonang areas

Stronger winds than forecast have created problems on the eastern side of the Bogong South fire in the Dellicknora, Tubbut, Cabanandra and Bonang areas. Those communities have been put on high alert for ember attack and advised to enact their Bushfire Plans.

Incident controller, Dennis Matthews said that one spotover in particular is causing concern in open country near Dellicknora.

"It is accessible and we’re using aircraft to bomb this fire now," Mr Matthews said.

"Visibility is still a problem, but we’re onto it and want to make sure that the community know what’s going on and are prepared."

In the Swifts Creek area, there has been a slight increase in fire behaviour in a number of areas, but Incident Controller Ben Rankin said that at this point everything is still within containment lines, and he’s pleased with progress to date.

"We’ve also been achieving some good work around the Cassilis area with backburning and dozer work supporting that," Mr Rankin said.

"Other work has been progressing quite smoothly with fire crews working on mop up work and direct attack work in the area."

Meetings are planned for Ensay and Swifts Creek tomorrow at the CFA sheds at to discuss operational tactics and to let the communities know what is being done in relation to backburning and line work.

"It is expected to be a hot day tomorrow, possibly with winds, so people need to stay alert and watchout for changes in fire behaviour," Mr Rankin said.

In the Dargo area, resources will be steadily increasing over the next week, but there is no immediate threat to the township of Dargo.

Incident controller Laurie Jeremiah said that residents in Dargo have implemented their fire plans and have done a lot of work to prepare for the fire.

"We’ve given them whatever support we can in terms of working with them on developing individual plans for their properties," Mr Jeremiah said.
