Councillors to Host ‘Listening Posts’ for Battery Recycling PlantCouncillor Listening Posts’ will be conducted in August to allow interested community members to engage with Councillors. By Portal Admin - 2nd August 2020 - Back to News Latrobe City Council is hosting several opportunities for community members to talk to Councillors about their thoughts on the proposed battery recycling facility. ‘Councillor Listening Posts’ will be conducted in August to allow interested community members to engage with Councillors.
Latrobe City Council Mayor, Councillor Dan Clancey, said that engaging with the community would ensure that Council afforded an opportunity for all to take part in the conversation.
"We know there has been a significant amount of interest from the community at previous information sessions. Now that we are approaching the date when Council’s response for further information about the proposed facility is due, it’s important for Council to meet with and listen to the community," Cr Clancey said.
A planning permit application was submitted on 3 February 2020 for a proposed Used Lead Acid Battery recycling facility (ULAB) at Fourth Road, Hazelwood North. Further information has been requested by Council planning officers and the applicant has until 21 August 2020 to provide a response.
‘Councillor Listening Posts’, will be held on 11 and 13 August, with limited numbers to allow for more informal discussion. Several session times will be available so that as many people as possible can attend," Cr Clancey said.
In the lead up to the ‘Councillor Listening Post’ sessions a Community Information Session will be facilitated by Council’s Planning staff to provide information about the Planning permit process for those who want more information.
"Council officers will host a Community Information Session via Zoom on Thursday 6 August from 6pm . Council’s planning officers will provide an overview of the planning permit process and answer community questions regarding the permit process." Cr Clancey explained.
"The proposed plant required both a works approval from EPA and planning permission from Council.
"Planning is a complex process and for large scale projects like this it can seem even more complicated. We hope these sessions will give the community the confidence to ask any questions they may have and that they feel like their concerns or issues are being heard."
